About UF LEARNS
A hands-on Saturday workshop for high school science teachers. Explore how scientific knowledge is built, practice inquiry you can use on Monday, and leave with adaptable lessons, practical strategies, and fresh confidence to lead evidence-based learning.
UF LEARNS—a program from the UF Health Academy for Science and Careers in partnership with the UF Center for Precollegiate Education and Training—focuses on practical strategies to strengthen your teaching and support student growth in science. Each session is built around key elements:
L – Laboratory investigations: Explore ways to make hands-on science accessible and meaningful for all learners.
E – Evidence-based reasoning: Help students build arguments and draw conclusions from real data.
A – Active experimentation: Learn how to plan and deploy experiments while guiding students through designing and carrying out their own experiments.
R – Reflective practice: Develop habits of reflection to improve both teaching and learning.
N – Next-generation science skills: Connect classroom activities to the skills students need for future success.
S – Scientific inquiry: Foster curiosity and support students in asking and investigating their own questions.
