About Mini Medical School

The UF Medical Guild, UF Health - Academy for Science and Careers, and UF-Center for Precollegiate Education and Training welcomes you to our Mini Medical School Teacher Professional Development Day, in-person on the UF campus!

Mini Medical School is a 1-day learning opportunity for secondary, health, and vocational teachers to broaden their knowledge of important health science topics though interactions with health professionals and researchers, and to take this knowledge back to their classrooms.

We also welcome school administrative faculty to attend!

A light breakfast, lunch, and parking will be provided, along with a shuttle from the parking garage to the venue.

(As parking on campus is limited, carpooling is encouraged.)

Fall 2026

Date: October 16, 2026
Time: 8:30 am - 4 pm
Location: University of Florida, Gainesville, FL
Topic: Rewrite the Code: Gene Therapy, CRISPR & the Future of Medicine

                                                                  MMS website gator

You’ll explore how gene therapy and CRISPR are changing the way we understand and treat genetic disease. Through engaging talks, hands-on activities, and real-world medical examples, our speakers will break down the science behind editing DNA and delivering new therapies - no advanced genetics background required.

This Mini Medical School for teachers will help you:

  • Understand what gene therapy is, and how it differs from gene editing
  • See how CRISPR can be used to target specific DNA sequences
  • Explore how these technologies are being investigated and used to treat genetic disease
  • Learn about the challenges of safety, delivery, ethics, and access
  • Discover ways to connect cutting-edge biomedical science to your own classroom

Join us for a day of discovery, discussion, and hands-on learning at the intersection of genetics, technology, and medicine; and see what it really means to rewrite the code.
