About Gainesville Emerging Scientist Training - UF-G.E.S.T.
Attention High School Juniors and Seniors!
Are you interested in science, chemistry, and learning what it is like to work in a university research laboratory? Gainesville Emerging Scientist Training (UF G.E.S.T.) gives high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to receive hands-on training in a University of Florida chemistry laboratory alongside UF professors and graduate students.
During this two-day program, participants will explore scientific analysis techniques used in research, including biological tissue handling, molecular imaging using complex scientific instrumentation, data and statistical analysis, and scientific professional development.
UF G.E.S.T. is designed for students who are curious about science and research and would like an opportunity to experience university-level laboratory science while learning directly from members of the UF scientific community.
Program Highlights:
- Hands-On Laboratory Experience: Work in a university chemistry laboratory and gain exposure to research techniques and scientific instrumentation.
- Explore Scientific Analysis: Learn about biological tissue handling, molecular imaging, and data and statistical analysis.
- Meet UF Scientists: Learn from UF professors and graduate students working in science and chemistry.
- Scientific Professional Development: Explore scientific research and the skills used by scientists in academic and professional settings.
- Experience UF: Spend two days learning in the University of Florida Department of Chemistry.
Program Eligibility:
- Must be a high school junior or senior.
- Must attend school in Alachua County or a neighboring county.
- Students with a strong interest in science and research are especially encouraged to apply.
- Must be able to attend and actively participate in the full two-day program.

- 8:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. each day

Participant Support:
- Breakfast and lunch are provided each day.
