About SSI: Environmental Sciences

 


SSI: Environmental Sciences is geared toward all K12 teachers addressing life and environmental sciences with their students; teachers of all levels are encouraged to participate to bolster their own content knowledge, and to contribute to our understanding of the foundational content knowledge development in students needed to build toward more advanced knowledge. Elementary, Middle and High School teachers are all welcome to apply. SSI is a residential program for teachers to gain content learning and skills toward preparing students to master state standards. 

This cooperative project has been funded in part by the United States Environmental Protection Agency
 
UF CPET SSI: Environmental Sciences 2025 has been developed in collaboration with UF/IFAS Florida Friendly Landscape (trademarked name) Program

  • Program will include lab activities, field trips (require light walking, out doors, up to 1/2 mile), mini lectures and hands-on activities lead by from UF faculty and graduate students, and discussions and presentations lead by the participants.
  • This program will rely on active participation from teachers. Participants will develop and present content for the SSI, including a required final action plan based on the Florida Friendly Landscape Principles.
  • The Action Plan document is due on July 19th, before the summer program ends, and the action plan will be presented to the group on that same day.

Stipend


Participants will receive a $1000 stipend upon completion of the program. 

  • To receive the $1000 stipend, teachers will attend all days and events of the program and provide the following deliverables to UF CPET: develop and share a curriculum plan focused on the FFL principles, deliver a draft and presentation of curriculum plan during the summer program (on 7/18/25), share impact report with UF CPET (by 5/22/2026) on your classroom experience.

Eligibility


This summer program is for Florida K12 science teachers. Elementary, Middle and High School teachers are all welcome to apply. 

Required Forms

You will need a Support Statement form (template linked below) signed by you and your school's administrator verifying your employment as a Florida K12 teacher. This signed form will be uploaded into this application and will be required for a completed application.
