Program Cost: $400.00, which will includes lunch, staffing and supervision; program-related materials. and program shirt. This is a day-camp program and the students are dropped off and picked-up each day.
Description: The Broward County Great Challenge is a one-week summer program for rising high school sophomores interested in learning more about the agricultural and life science issues affecting systems right in their own backyards. Participants will visit indoor and outdoor research laboratories on-campus at the UF IFAS Fort Lauderdale Research and Education Center in Broward County and work in groups to create awareness campaigns covering their chosen issues. The experience culminates in presentations made to program staff as well as UF faculty and graduate students.
What the Great Challenge Offers:
The Great Challenge is an eye-opening experience for students. As a participant, you would have the opportunity to:
- Learn about several areas of research being conducted by faculty and students of the UF College of Agricultural and Life Sciences.
- Visit indoor and outdoor laboratories to witness firsthand the work of scientists and researches
- Participate in hands-on activities in lab settings
- Produce a professional-grade deliverable in a collaborative working and learning environment
- Receive information about the University of Florida Honors Program as a prospective student
